User Interfaces: GUI vs CUI

 User Interfaces

User Interfaces (UI) are simply the place that helps the user interact with the computer system. This helps the users to control the computer and perform tasks in it. There are mainly two types of user interfaces:

1.Graphical User Interface (GUI)
2.Character User Interface (CUI)

Graphical User Interface

Graphical User Interface (GUI) is the user interface which involves the graphical components in the interface. This is one of the most used interface in computers and mobile phones. This user interface is easy to use and can be easily learned to use. This is one of the major reason why the graphical user interface is highly used. Though it is easy to use, it is slower than CUI as the CPU will also have to load graphics.

Some examples of Graphical User Interface (GUI) are: Android, Windows, macOS, iOS, Ubuntu, GNOME, KDE, XFCE, etc.

Character User Interface

Character User Interface (CUI), also know as Command-Line Interface (CLI) or non-graphical user interface, is the user interface which mainly involves a black screen and a white letters on the screen. In order to perform any task, you will have to enter commands from the keyboard and there will be mostly not use of the mouse as everything can be done from the keyboard. This is comparatively more faster than the GUI but it is difficult use and you will have to remember a lot of commands to use a the system properly.

Some examples of Character User Interface (CUI) are: UNIX, Command Prompt, Terminal, MS-DOS, etc.
